C720 is a good model, but not for its Celeron version, I tried to install Windows 10 on it, but I found it did not support sleeping

I want to tell college students:
1. Never buy a Atom/Celeron/Pentium/Athlon/ARM laptop, they look cheap now, but they only worth 1/10 of its price after one year; For Core/Xeon/Ryzen, they worth 1/2 after four years
2. Never buy a Chromebook, they are difficult to repair, and they do not support bios flash (or you can hack with mrchromebox), they support rare software from chromebrew, if you really understand computer science, you will find crouton is just a toy, they hold outdated hardware from mobile phone, but you can pay the same price to buy a used laptop with a real solid state hard drive from your classmate
3. Never buy a laptop with Optimus, they are very difficult to use under Linux and Hackintosh, fortunately, no a single Chromebook support Optimus

As a student, this chromebook has been invaluable in keeping me organized and on top of my classes. The seamless transition between unit and the cloud is extremely useful in maintaining notes and assignments across multiple devices. Hardware-wise the unit is pretty sturdy, I haven't thrown it around too much, but it's handled it's fair share of overstuffed backpacks. The construction does feel a bit plasticky, and I would prefer something with a bit of a more metallic feel, but for the price this unit delivers decent speed, excellent battery life (I've left it on sleep mode for days and woken it up to find a >50% charge) and handy cohesion with Google apps; I'm willing to overlook whatever cosmetic issues I might have. All-in-all, a highly recommended buy for students or anyone one on the move with a budget.

Like it because: Amazing product. I have had it for almost 4 months now and it is great. I have 18 pages open right now and still flying at the speed of light on each page switching back and forth. This product is very under rated. Keyboard is bigger than most small computers which is nice for people with fat finger disorder, such as myself.

Main Problems with it: You can't use Microsoft programs but you can use google docs/slides/sheets. They work fine except for when you use sheets, you get into data analysis and sheets with a lot of data (over a hundred rows per page, multiple pages, and numerous formulas used). Also, saving as a word doc or PowerPoint will most definitely mess with the formatting but if that isn't a problem for you, then I highly recommend this product. I got around it by fixing up an old PC desktop which I use for excel and formatting word documents before submitting them for school (senior in college).

All in all if you can get over not using Microsoft programs this is the perfect choice.

Side notes: You can use caps lock (alt+search key)
I did have an ASUS 2 in one flip and I liked it for a bit but then it started to slow down and crash periodically. My thoughts are that for a computer with such a small processor and memory, things like touch screen and Microsoft slow them down too much (just an opinion).

The first thing I did was remove ChromeOS and install GalliumOS. It's a distribution of Linux that is made specifically for Chromebooks. It's fast, utilizes system resources well, and allows you to do things every other modern computer can do.

I use my chromebook for homework, programming, I used it in my Linux course for labs (didn't have to use school craptops!) and for Skype and movies and.

For the low price I paid, I am very satisfied with my order. The only thing I could ask for is better battery life..

I chose this model largely based on Consumer Reports rating and its price.

Essentially, this was the perfect device for me.I already have a high powered laptop, a good tablet, etc.What I needed was something that could act as a thin client through vmware (it can), and is otherwise mostly a browser.This fits that bill.Because it is inexpensive, it isn't a total tragedy if it is stolen or lost.Because it is secure, I don't have to worry about my data being exposed (except for the gmail account, and the one I use for access is not my primary gmail).When I am on a trip, this is the right machine for move photos from my camera (It has an SD slot) to my USB drives.It is also thin and light, and I am loving the ChromeOS touch pad.So far the battery life is very good, and they keyboard is spaced out enough to make typing relatively comfortable (In fact, I'm writing this review on it).

Obviously, this isn't a real computer.Games (other than browser ones, I guess.I don't play them) are pretty much off the table.You cannot load traditional applications, just browser apps and extensions.Video quality is fair, at best.For me, these are all pluses, since I don't have anyone wishing to borrow it. But I can see how it wouldn't fulfill the needs of many. YMMV.

I just got my this C740 last week and have been playing around with it most of the weekend.This is the 2 GB RAM/16 GB SSD version of the C740.I have been very happy with it - I like the speed, battery life, and Chrome OS in general.However, there are two graphics/display related issues I have noticed and I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing this.

The most significant issue I've had is that occasionally the display image gets jumbled up.It's like the screen is cut up into blocks and scrambled like a jigsaw puzzle.It could happen anywhere in the system, even at the login screen, so I'm thinking it's possibly driver or hardware related.It's usually just a flicker, but the image has actually stabilized in a broken state.It generally seems to fix itself pretty quick, may even miss it if you blink, but there was one time that I had to reboot (power off/on) before it resolved.This issue seems most likely to happen when I am in Chrome RDP, but I can't tell if it is specific to that app since it happens all over the system, even when the app is closed.

The other issue I have seems to be specific to a website that uses an HTML5 canvas to display a remote desktop.The issue happens within the canvas where icons will get random white blocks around them.White blocks may also appear within the canvas, sometimes without me touching anything.I have not had this issue in any other browsers, including my wife's C720.

So I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced issues like this on the C740, in any other chromebooks, or specifically with the Chrome RDP app.I really like this Chromebook, but am considering returning for exchange based on these issues.My wife's C720 does not seem to have these issues.
